Nathaniel E. David, PhD | Chief Science Officer, Kythera
Nathaniel "Ned" David, PhD, co-founder and Chief Science Officer of Kythera, looks for unexpected ways to take biological insights and marry them with unmet needs in aesthetic medicine. As the co-founder of Syrrx (acquired by Takeda for $270 million in 2005) and Achaogen, he has experience creating and growing innovative biotechnology companies. Ned was named one of the Top 100 innovators in the world under 35 (2002) by the MIT Technology Review.
Ned holds numerous pending and issued patents in fields such as nanovolume crystallography, antibiotic resistance, energy production, and aesthetic medicine. He sits on the board of trustees of the UC Foundation and on the board of directors of Sapphire Energy, a next-generation bioenergy company producing liquid transportation fuels that are 100% compatible with the existing energy infrastructure. He holds a PhD from UC Berkeley in Molecular and Cellular Biology and an AB in Biology from Harvard College.

Dennis Fenton, PhD
As immediate past Executive Vice President of Operations at Amgen, Inc., Dennis was responsible for worldwide operations, manufacturing, process development and quality. A true pioneer in biotechnology, he left Pfizer 25 years ago to join the promising start-up company Amgen. Since that time Dennis has held numerous executive leadership roles at Amgen including operations, and sales and marketing. Dennis also serves on the board of directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), the board of trustees of the Keck Graduate Institute, and the board of regents of California Lutheran University. He has a PhD in Microbiology from Rutgers University.

Keith Leonard | President and Chief Executive Officer, Kythera
Keith Leonard, a co-founder of Kythera, and President and Chief Executive Officer, is directing the newly formed management team and leveraging the experience of the board of directors.
Formerly, as Senior Vice president and General Manager of Amgen Europe, Keith was responsible for all commercial operations in 28 countries. During his tenure in Europe he built a team that took the company’s products to market leadership in oncology and nephrology, and dramatically expanded the company’s operations, in just three years. Prior to that experience, his career at Amgen included establishing Amgen’s presence in rheumatology with the creation of the Rheumatology Business Unit, Head of Information Management, and leadership roles in Sales and Marketing, Engineering, Operations, and Finance. Keith is also a board member of ARYx Therapeutics.
Keith holds a BS in Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); a BA in History from the University of Maryland; an MS in Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley; and an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA.

Joseph Turner
Joseph Turner joins Kythera’s Board with more than 25 years of financial management experience in pharmaceutical and biotech industries worldwide. As Chief Financial Officer of several early stage industrial companies, Turner was responsible for eight equity offerings, including three Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), raising a total of $450 million in the public and private markets. He spent seven years as Chief Financial Officer at Myogen, Inc. where he led two private and three public rounds of financing and was a key player in the negotiation of the $2.5 billion sale of the company to Gilead Sciences in 2006. Prior to Myogen, Turner was Vice President of Finance at Cortech, Inc. where he led the transition from a private concern to a public company and successfully completed both IPO and follow-on offerings. Other financial leadership roles include Director of Finance, Eli Lilly and Company (Switzerland); Treasurer, Eli Lilly and Company (Switzerland); and Vice President of Finance, Centaur Pharmaceuticals. He is member of the Board of Directors of Sequel Pharmaceuticals and of SGX Pharmaceuticals and is a former board member and Chairman of the Audit Committee of NovaCardia, Inc.
